Norristown - Il rappresentante di stato e presidente del Comitato Repubblicano per la Contea del Montgomery, Mike Verb, ha segnalato al Governatore Tom Corbett la nomina dell'ex Capo della Polizia, Russel Bono, come Sceriffo della Contea del Montgomery.

Bono è stato nominato per sostituire lo sceriffo dimissionario Eileen Behr, che ha accettato una posizione alla Drexel University.
Un comitato di ricerca, che comprendeva il Procuratore Distrettuale Risa Ferman, è stato messo su per trovare un candidato qualificato, quando Behr ha consegnato le dimissioni. La posizione doveva essere coperta da un candidato repubblicano, dato che Behr è stato eletto da uno scrutinio repubblicano.
Il vicepresidente e sindaco di Pottstown Sharon Thomas non ha potuto prendere parte all'incontro, ma ha commentato il processo e l'esito.
"non sono solo orgogliosa, ma anche rassicurata dalla professionalità dimostrata nel processo di formazione della candidatura a sceriffo", dice la Thomas. "

Se il governatore della Pennsylvania Tom Corbett accetta la candidatura, sarà necessario un voto della maggioranza del Senato dello stato per la conferma. La posizione non è disponibile per una nuova rielezione fino al 2015.
"Sono entusiasta di raccomandare Russell Bono al governatore Corbett ", ha detto Vereb. "La nostra regione e i suoi abitanti saranno ben serviti da Russell Bono come sceriffo".
NORRISTOWN — Montgomery County Republican Committee Chairman and state Rep. Mike Vereb (R-150th Dist.) will recommend to Gov. Tom Corbett that former Norristown Police Chief Russell Bono be nominated as Montgomery County Sheriff.
"Chief Bono has an extensive and distinguished career in law enforcement," Vereb said. "His record as chief in Norristown was filled with many accomplishments, and he will bring the highest degree of professionalism and integrity to the position."
Bono is being nominated to replace outgoing Sheriff Eileen Behr, who has accepted a position with Drexel University.
A search committee, which included Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman, was put into place to find a qualified candidate when Behr resigned. The position was required to be filled by a republican candidate since Behr was elected on the republican ballot.
MCRC Vice-Chairwoman and Mayor of Pottstown Sharon Thomas was unable to attend the meeting, but commended the process and outcome.
"I am not only proud, but encouraged by the professionalism and inclusion that were demonstrated in the process of recommending a nominee for Sheriff," Thomas said. "All corners of the county were represented as well as different constituencies. The fairness and transparency of this process is indicative the Republican Party here in Montgomery County, and I have every confidence the process resulted in the best person being recommended for the position."
If Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett accepts the nomination, a majority vote of the state Senate will be required for confirmation. The position is not up for re-election again until 2015.
"I'm thrilled to recommend Russell Bono to Governor Corbett," Vereb said. "Our county and its residents will be well served with Russell Bono as Sheriff."
